Chincoteague NWR

Today's post are two male Bufflehead images. These shots were captured at the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge. I thought the day was going to be a bust because while scouting, most of the refuge was froze up. I located one open water area that had a nice raft of Bufffleheads. I worked my way over to the shore, got down low and photographed the location for 5 hours. The ducks got comfortable with my presence after about 45 minutes. Was a good decision to hang in there because I ended up photographing 4 different species. As you can see the males have already started their beautiful head colors. Blue Skies.

I love these shots Ken. I like to sit and wait for the ducks to stretch their wings too. It's satisfying to capture such moments.

Great shots, Ken. I especially like the second one.

I have videotaped them at long range, but have never been close enough to capture the colors in the head. I always thought they were black until I saw these.
