Florida

Now that I am officially retired, decided that my first photo trip would be to Florida. The bonus is that my folks live in Florida so I can visit with them as well. The plan was to leave Virginia Wednesday and make the first photo stops at Merritt Island (Titusville) and Vierra Wetlands (Melborne) in Florida for first light. Unfortunately it was spitting rain most of the day, so the conditions were not good. I did not let the dismal weather deter my photography desire and took the above shots when it was either cloudy or rainy.

The top shot was taken yesterday at Vierra Wetlands. The immature Great Blue Heron was composed so that you could see the predator alligator in the background sizing him up.

The second image is of a male and female Blue-winged Teal. The photo was taken at Vierra as well. At both Merritt Island and Vierra the teal were present in huge numbers.

The third Pied-billed Grebe shot was taken at Vierra. He kept swimming underneath the water looking for minnows. I was tracking him and had all the settings ready when he popped up.

The fourth image is of a Cormorant. This was taken at Vierra as well. If you look closely you can see the rain hitting the water.

The bottom image is of an Osprey with a fish. This could have been a better image if it wasn't raining and had some light. This photo was taken at Merritt Island.

Today I photgraphed at Green Cay Wetlands in Boynton Beach. The light was good and fortunate to get keepers (Stork, Red-Shouldered Hawk flyer, Spoonbill). Will be posting images regularly during the next week.

Blue Skies.

Those are some great shots, Ken.
I'm so envious of the warm temps you are enjoying down in Florida!

Ha! Not so warm in FL currently, huh?
Though we hit the mid 80's two days ago, now we're in the low 40's to high 50's. I hope you have fun and bring home a good loot!
And maybe we actually make it to meet up in Merrit Island. I was there 4 weeks ago, but it was dead as a doornail. Should be better by now.
Cheers, Klaus

Ken: What neat captures, I'm having a hard time deciding if the Heron and gator or the raptor and fish. Both are neat shots.
