Sax Zim Bog & Humbling News

Today's featured species is the Common Redpoll. These cute little guys were quite abundant within the bog. Redpolls are a boreal species and seen in North America only in the winter.

I also received some exciting news today! One of my images was chosen as a top ten finalist in the Sony World Photography Awards competition. I am the only American representative in the Amateurs group within the "Natural History" category. Here is the link with the announcement:

Cute picture. I don't know what keeps that stalk from falling over with the bird's weight.

Congratulations Ken. That is a very attractive bird also, never seen or heard of them before. Thanks for the great compliment on my fishing heron, it is nice to get feedback like that.

Fabulous news!! How trilling to just be nominated!! What an honor. The redpoll bird shot is beautiful. It's amazing how these birds can survive the Minnesota winters.

That's awesome Ken!!! HUGE Congratulations!

I just finished a post about some frustrations I have with my Sony DSLR (It's not the camera - it's me), and then I come over here and read your news... so that gave me something to smile about!
