Denali - Snowshoe hare

Today's featured Denali National Park species is the Snowshoe hare. These guys, like the Ptarmigan in the previous post, are all along the road mostly in the late evening and early morning.

As you can see they are in a changing color phase from all winter white into a gray rusty brown for the summer. Snowshoes get their name due to their large hind feet and the track they leave in the snow. I have a hare that meets me just about every morning outside my cabin.

The next featured species will be the caribou.

Blue Skies.

How wonderful Ken. Here there is so little difference in our winter and summer temperatures that the animals coats get thick in colder times but they do not change colour. Only the male birds loos their mating plumages and colors.

Super fotki , czapki z głów . Masz talent do robienia zdjęć przyrodniczych.
Pozdrawiam , Andrzej :)

Those are adorable. I've never seen them before. Thats one of the things I love about blogging. I get to see things from someone else's world.
I'll bet that rabbit is telling his family that he had a human that meets him every morning too. tee hee

I havn't had much time for blogging recently Ken but I am truly enjoying you Alaskan adventure! Your photos are truly outstanding!

I've only ever seen these guys in their summer browns. Their transition phase is beautiful!
