Yellowstone Bison

After leaving Colorado headed north to the Tetons. Not much wildlife action there, so headed north to Yellowstone. The bears were really not out yet in the park. The wolf population had also declined to 97 individuals for the entire park, from a high of 174. The primary cause of the population decline was due to mange, distemper and competition. So, since the high level predators were not readily visible decided to concentrate on the bison/buffalo. I was fortunate one evening when a rainbow appeared in Lamar Valley.

I enjoyed watching these three guys race across Soda Butte Creek in a Buffalo Triathlon in great afternoon light.

The above dominant male was letting the others know that the adjacent female was owned.

The boys were clashing on a regular basis within the herds.

I arrived in Fairbanks, AK yesterday evening. The roads and weather on the ALCAN could not have been better. After some vehicle maintenance and getting some supplies I am heading to Denali tomorrow.

Blue Skies.

Great pics of the bison -they look such powerful animals. The clashing reminds me on how people behave sometimes LOL:)

These are great action shots Ken. How lucky we are they they did not die out completely. I was lucky to see a few on one of my trips there at a private ranch and could compare them with our buffalo.

Glad you are almost there and had a good trip except for car trouble which you seem to have got sorted out smartly.

Lovely bison shots! Did you see any of the bison along the Alcan?

After your long drive you're probably looking forward to arriving at Denali. Bird migration is in full swing, so you're sure to see some at the Park. If you get time before you head out, swing by Creamer's Field. There's lots of activity there.

Welcome back to Alaska!
