Today's featured species is the great horned owl. Another photographer was kind enough to reveal a general woods location for this owl. After some searching located this guy. These are very stoic owls. They are easy to identify from other owls due to their size and ear tufts. The ear tufts are not thier ears, but tufts of feathers that protrude from the head.
I am headed north this afternoon. Stopping at some other northern FL photo locations. Probably not have an opportunity to post again until Saturday.

Ken: Now that is something special, I've never seen an owl in the wild with a camera.
I saw a Great Blue Heron in a field last week. I thought they all went South.
I love owls, but have seen very few in the wild. I have heard many over the years and wished I could see them.

I have had a few encounters with barred owls, including the one at the south end of Big Meadows, but never a great horned! How fortunate that you were able to capture such a reclusive bird.
I have been enjoying your pictures from your first retirement trip... The second owl picture is great.. looks like he is yelling at you.
