Today's featured species is the Northern Hawk Owl. We went to Minnesota in hopes of capturing images of both a NHO and a Great Grey Owl. The weather turned unusually warm during the week of our visit for this time of the year in Minnesota and most the owls had already migrated. We saw this owl on the first afternoon when we arrived at Sax Zim Bog. We only saw a couple of other NHOs at a distance after that afternoon no GGOs. This owl lives primarily in boreal forests and is uncommon in the lower 48 except during irruptions.

Is this a very small owl Ken? It looks a lot like one of ours which is tiny. A fantastic shot and as sharp as always.

I had a bad wireless connection in Florida but I did get to check you out a couple of times, no owls for me while I was there. Klaus was great to shoot with, he showed me a few places you guys shot that are now dry. but still a great time and many images to go through now that I am home.

As I looked at this image without reading your prose I had a feeling it had some thing to do with "hawk" it's feathers hang just like the juvenile Cooper hawk that sits near me bird feeder!
