July in Florida

I had good times joining my brother and sister at my parent’s home in southern Florida during the third week of July. Before traveling to Florida, spoke with a friend and photographer Harold Davis about any current avian photo opportunities. He mentioned the possibility of seeing Snail Kites (also referred to as the Everglade Kite) in the Loxahatchee National Wildlife Refuge. Met with Harold early one morning and along with some other photographers we located and enjoyed photographing this endangered species. I had viewed and photographed Snail Kites at some distance before this trip. Luckily after spending two mornings observing an area of the refuge that the kites were frequenting, was fortunate to capture some images. An added bonus was seeing and acquiring a flight shot of a passing Swallowtail Kite.

Hi Ken,
Looks you've been successful with Kites! Love the Swallowtail Kite, which is one of my favorite Birds of Prey! Well - keep 'em coming!
Cheers, Klaus

Ken, This is my first visit to your Blog. I am really enjoying it and will be back. This is an awesome bird. We do not have these types of birds in Colorado... that I know of.
