Colonial Parkway 2

This is the second set of images processed from the Saturday evening shoot. The first image is of a Mute Swan. For those of you that do not know the difference, this particular species of swan is an exotic to North America. Mute swans are a threat to native species as a result of competition for food, territories, and nesting areas. During the nesting season, Mute Swans have been known to attack folks who approach their nests and to act aggressively to boaters. Although controversial, for these mentioned reasons, Mute Swans are considered a nuisance species in Virginia. This Swan was adjacent to a lake with some yearlings. The Swan was alerted to my presence and raised his head. I then moved the camera around so as to allow the sun reflection portion of the lake in the background to highlight the head area.

As you can see the fawn was in amongst the taller grass. After continually positioning the camera as the fawn was moving I was finally able to get a clear shot. The buck was feeding and would occasionally look up. I like shooting later in the evening so that the backgrounds are almost black so as to highlight the deer with the remaining light.
