RMNP Elk

Unfortunately had a computer meltdown this week so in the process of rebuilding and thus late posting. That aside, had good times taking this image. This bull was spotted in RMNP going into a wooded area one evening. He had a decent harem with him. I was not able to capture a shot so decided to be in the general location the following morning. Lo and behold he crossed back into the field just before light. I took a few pictures but did not get any decent keepers. About an hour or so after light another bull came down the mountain to check out the bull's harem. I was positioned in the woods in between them. The bull pictured was the original guy and came right into the woods with 40 yards of me and began bugling. I continued to position myself hoping for a clear shot of him while he kept on eye out for the other bull. He bugled several times. I liked this image the best of the series because you can see steam coming out of his mouth. Only wish I could have gotten the entire sent of antlers into the frame. Blue Skies.

Great picture. Sounds like a hunters story just with a camera instead of a gun.

All the antlers or not it is still a great picture. People that have never experienced the sounds of the rut and the beauty of the animals really don't know what they ar missing.

Thanks to you and Willard, I have many more places to go and shoot. I just may need a new home if I do it to often, LOL.

Awesome picture Ken.
I am sure you are underplaying the fieldcraft to get so near, the detail (full antlers) must be nigh on impossible and you have to get what you take.
Thanks for taking the time to visit my blog the other week.
Regards
Mike Randall
