Reddish Egret

Trust everyone had a special Christmas. The featured species for today's post is the Reddish Egret. These birds are great fun to watch. They are a challenge to photograph because they are continually running around actively feeding by either flapping wings or using the shadow of its wings above the shallow water to drive prey forward for capture. Reddish Egrets are larger than the herons posted on the 22nd, about 22" long, with a 46" wingspan. The 2nd to the last image shows a typical feeding method. If you enlarge the bottom image, you can see that bird has a freshly caught fish in his bill.

Wow Ken!! Beautiful shots again. Is this a normal egret size or larger? The reason I ask is because it looks very much like our Goliath Heron but they are quite large. I hope you had a good Christmas too. Enjoy yourself and keep posting these wonderfl shots. :)

Such crystal clear shots you take. Must be some kinda camera you have there.
I like the one that looks as if running on water.

Hopped over from Klaus's blog link. Astonishing images. So envious of you encountering birds like this.
