Barnegat Bay

The upper image provides you an idea of where I have been the last two days. As you can see the inlet is full of ice. The lower image is just about the only wildlife that I have seen to photograph. It was 6 degrees when I got out of the truck to photograph just before light. The Barnegat Bay area was about 4 degrees warmer than inland due to the ocean effect. The wind was blowing around 5-10 mph, so it was not too bad. From a photography standpoint is was a complete bust. Since the inlet was froze up due to the cold temps, all the waterfowl had moved to open water. The jetties were full of ice so it was hazardous walking with the camera gear. The only birds I saw were some Dunlin and Ruddy Turnstones. The Dunlin that is pictured above was one of the few that braved the cold air to search around for some food. Most were huddled in groups. The blue background is a morning sky reflection on the ice on the jetty rocks.

Headed south tomorrow working my way back home. Enjoyed spending time with my brother and watching my nephew wrestle on Saturday. He pinned his first opponent in less than a minute.

C'mon now. It wasn't a complete bust. Those are some really nice pictures. AND, you learned at what time of year not to go there to photograph the wildlife.

Sorry to hear you didn't find too much wildlife to photograph. At least you got some sunny days and some beautiful scenery to take in.

Still sounds beautiful and refreashing. So glad that you can enjoy what nature has to offer, even when it is not what you are hoping for.

Looks like both you and your subject were in precarious positions when you took that image. Beautiful Ken

What are you doing in that heat?
You not always get your way - but hey - there always is a next time.
I had my total bust at Jetty Park.
Cheers, Klaus
