Valdez - Bald Eagles

Been busy with friends lately, thus the belated post. The Camera Gear Lackey also visited for 9 days and we had some special experiences in the outdoors. One trip with Carole, similar to the one I took with Tim, was to Valdez where the salmon were running. We were able to view Bald Eagles, like those above, frequenting the Prince William Sound area for the fish. The eagle viewing was special, similar to what I have seen in Homer, AK. We were fortunate in that the the tide was low and the sun was out, so conditions were perfect for photography.

Even the immature eagles were in on the action.

After a slow approach, this eagle allowed a close photographic range. He was enjoying a freshly caught salmon on the Prince William Sound tidal bar. The reflection of this and the image above in great evening light were just special circumstances.

I had focused in on an flying in eagle, hoping to capture him catching a fish and only caught the lower portion of him snatching a spawning salmon close to shore. Made for an interesting image.

The next post will be of Grizzly Bears that came out of the bush to catch some of the salmon at the same location.

Blue Skies.

Well after this spectacular post I have to forgive you for not posting for so long. :)

Each picture is more magnificent than the one before so it is very difficult to say which one is the best here, maybe the second one.

What a lovely trip you had and I am pleased that the Camera Lackey was able to spend some quality time with you too.

It seems like this is the place to go if you want Bald Eagle shots especially during the salmon run. I also like that juvinile to managed to get.

A truly wonderful post Ken. Thanks you.

Wow, Ken. Great that you were able to see the bears and eagles so close by. Would have loved to have had that chance when I was there 2 weeks ago. Can't wait to see the bear images.

Glad you and Carole had such a great week.

Wow!! Gorgeous shots! I think I actually like the last one with the fish snatch best, or maybe the second one with the snagged fish, or maybe the reflection shot....

They are all just gorgeous. What wonderful timing to be there when the eagles were feeding and the light conditions were perfect. I look forward to seeing the Grizzly Bears.

Did you recognize any of these eagles from Homer? You are having a great time. Wonder how are you storing all those images.
