April ALCAN Trip

Arrived in Alaska mid-week and moved into my cabin today. The trip could not have been better. In comparison to last year during the same dates, this trip the roads were clear, weather was sunny/mild and there were less permafrost humps on the roads.

I met with another park ranger after Yellowstone, in Montana, and we drove the ALCAN together into Alaska. Dave, my buddy, took the cheesy photo of me in Dawson Creek at the beginning of the ALCAN.

A mandatory fuel stop is in Watson Lake, the gateway to the Yukon. This year I took the time to take a photo of the sign post forest. Amazing and interesting signs are from all over the world. After some searching found 2 Virginia license plates.

I didn't see as much wildlife along this road trip in comparison to last year, not even one bear. The two photos above of a Clark's Nutcracker and Big Horn Sheep were taken at Lake Louise and in Jasper National Park (Alberta).

Have lots of great blog posts upcoming. Already have had one of the best wildlife experiences of my life, the second day in Denali. Blue Skies.

Glad you are there? And you need a GPS to get there?

Ken it must be great, it is like you are living the dream. I can't wait to find out what your wildlife experience was you teased us with.

Always great to read about your travel experience, Ken... and looking forward to following your blog through the season. I'd been wondering about your travel progress and checking for updates. Good to know you're getting settled in for another great season in Denali. When you say this week you had your best experience in Denali so far, the rest of us can only imagine what that might be.

Glad you had a good drive up the Alcan, but too bad you didn't see more wildlife. You just never know. Nice shot of the sign post forest. I first saw it about 30 years ago, and it has grown tremendously since then. We spent some time wandering around and it is amazing to see the signs from all over the world.

Your wildlife experience teaser has me on the edge of my seat.
